Frequently asked questions
Here are some common questions about our classes.
Comfortable, loose fitting garments that allow ease of movement. Flat soled shoes may be worn, though many people practice in socks, bare feet or cotton-soled T'ai Chi shoes.
We begin with 30-40 minutes of T'ai Chi warm exercises followed by moving through the Yang Family 108 form. T'ai Chi is performed very slowly, valuing correct posture and form over quick movement.
We offer the first class as our gift to you to allow you to determine if you feel T'ai Chi is a good fit for you. If you would like to continue you may pay on a monthly basis in class or online. Fees are based upon the number of sessions per week. We accept cash, check, credit cards and Zelle.
What is T'ai Chi?
The Harvard Medical School Guide to Tai Chi: 12 Weeks to a Healthy Body, Strong Heart and Sharp Mind offers this definition, "Tai Chi is a mind-body exercise rooted in multiple Asian traditions, including martial arts, traditional Chinese medicine, and philosophy. Tai Chi training integrates slow, intentional movements with breathing and cognitive skills (for example, mindfulness and imagery). It aims to strengthen, relax, and integrate the physical body and mind, enhance the natural flow of Qi, and improve health, personal development, and self-defense."
